Neil W. McCabe, the national political editor of The Star News Network, interviewed Arizona GOP Senate hopeful Jim Lamon after his town hall with supporters in Sun City. Lamon told TSNN he would not have voted to certify Arizona’s electors Jan. 6, 2021.
Lamon is running for the opportunity to face Arizona Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly in the Aug. 2 primary. Kelly, a former astronaut, was elected in 2020 to finish the term of the late Republican Sen. John McCain.

McCabe: In an exclusive interview, Arizona GOP hopeful Jim Lamon told The Star News Network if he was in the Senate on January 6, he would have voted to desertify his state’s electors.
Lamon: I would not have voted to certify at a time when there were so many items obviously sitting on the table during those early days in November when we just completed the election before we went and put all the boxes away and brought them back out again under the audit.
McCabe: The former Alabama linebacker for coach Bear Bryant said the Maricopa County audit exposed the mishandling of the 2020 election in the state’s most populous county relative to the certification of the Arizona election.
Lamon: I supported the audit. I do it in my business, right? We have audits. And what we saw was what we believed we were seeing before the boxes were ever put away back in November and there were many things that went astray in this last election.
McCabe: The Cold War Army veteran said in the two months after the 2020 election, the governor and other state officials could have done more to correct the state’s 2020 results.
Lamon: If I were governor, I would have gone down and met with those people that opened up the boxes and said, here are the issues to look at them. And then taking the time to understand what they were, how much it could have affected this election, and gotten it right before it went wrong as badly as it did.
McCabe: Lamon is running in the August 2nd primary for the right to face astronaut Mark Kelly. Two years ago, Kelly, running to fill the unfinished term of the late Senator John McCain, told Arizonans he was a moderate. The businessman, Lamon said voters now know they made a mistake.
Lamon: Mark Kelly has been a big disappointment in Arizona. He ran as a moderate and he has governed as anything but. 100 percent with Schumer and their far-left agenda. Can’t stand that to happen in the state. This is not a far-left state and that’s why I intend to run as a middle right in the US Senate.
